Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'

A individual charged with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has consistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most widely reported investigations and continues to be unsolved.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

One recorded message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I know."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Is that not significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.

The panel was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who gathered the data, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I won't give up and I plan to establish my position."

The court learned Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.

Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to express the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the months preceding the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court was told message exchanges between the two individuals, in that autumn, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We have to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
