Democratic officials demonstrated outrage after the ex-president accused a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and declared they should be arrested and punished "with execution" following their posting of a disputed video.
The recorded message, published on Tuesday, includes six Democratic elected officials who formerly served in military or intelligence positions.
"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to safeguard and support this founding document," the lawmakers declared in the brief video. "And right now, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can refuse illegal orders, you can reject unlawful commands, you should reject improper directives. No one has to execute directives that break the legal system or our constitution."
The video message appeared to trigger a angry reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader issued a unified announcement condemning the comments.
"Partisan aggression has no place in this nation," they stated. "Elected officials who participated in the video all served our United States with tremendous national pride and honor. We clearly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous threats of violence against congressional representatives, and appeal to GOP representatives to strongly do the same."
The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to ensure the safety of these officials and their families."
"Donald Trump must immediately delete these radical online messages and withdraw his aggressive language before he gets someone killed," the announcement added.
The representatives who participated in the video also released a statement.
"We identify as former service members and defense specialists who care for this United States and made an oath to defend and uphold the constitution of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, pressure, or call for violence will stop us from that sacred obligation."
"The significant point is that the former president deems it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their backs as they execute their oath to the founding principles and duty to obey only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."
They added: "Every American must come together and denounce the ex-president's requests for our murder and partisan aggression. This is a time for principled stance."
The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's comments and published on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is demanding the death of government members."
