Ex- Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
