Audiences are thrilled for the horror series It: Welcome to Derry, which is earning acclaim and weaving in themes from additional King stories. Now, the network has revealed that the second installment will debut sooner than expected, scheduled ideally for October 31st.
Kicking off on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO Max, prior to its linear broadcast. The remaining installments of the show's first season will continue to air on Sundays on both HBO and its streaming arm, leading up to the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.
Set in the world of King's It, the new series draws from King’s iconic novel while expanding on the setting realized by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the two It films. The first It movie centered on young characters battling terrifying threats, thus it's suitable that this show continues that tradition. However, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it intended to escalate the fear, providing more frightening moments than the movies and creating a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Located in the early '60s, the series introduces a new generation of parents and youngsters inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town concealing a dark secret. The town operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns each 27-year cycle. Although It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the cinematic adaptations initially, what sets apart the digital program is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. Younger characters stay highly exposed to the entity's fear, but the adults also face confronting their own nightmares stemming from local discrimination and lurking supernatural forces.
Episode 2 debuts on October 31 at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
