In Such Poor Health I Couldn’t Walk As a Stranger Practically Supported Me to the Toilets.

During my nineteenth year, my regular journey to work involved an express bus. It remained jammed and invariably became without any seats when I got on.

One particular morning, I began feeling incredibly sick when the coach lurched around the bends. I kept telling myself to persevere just a little longer so the bus could got to my destination, at which point I could make a mad dash to the closest washroom to vomit.

As we neared the road leading to the stop when it dawned on me I would not be to hold on. In an instant, it felt as if a veil came over me. My vision turned blank and silent; similar to when one turned off the audio. I thought, “I am about to pass out”.

Luckily I was near the front of the bus, allowing me to take a few steps to ask the driver and asked the driver to pull over, telling him I needed to get ill. The driver opened the doors and I stumbled out out onto the street.

I was resolved to avoid being sick before six lanes of traffic, so I forced myself up and endeavored to make my way to the park across the road, where I thought I could at least discreetly hide among some shrubs to be sick. However I likely blacked out. I sensed my physical self, yet walking was impossible or see clearly, so I started dragging myself toward the park.

“Everything alright, love?”

In that instant, I was lifted up. There was a strong arm supporting me and a stranger inquired, “Everything alright, love?” I managed to tell the mysterious stranger that I required to vomit. Therefore, he almost helped me walk over to a close-by structure and guided me into the female bathroom. He inquired whether I required him to stay with me but I declined.

A few minutes later, I felt better to the point of sitting on the toilet when from beyond the stall I heard his voice asking, “Are you feeling better, dear? Is there anything you require?” I could not to get up right away but I did succeed to express my gratitude and after a few more minutes recovered the use of my feet. I returned home and spent several days healing from which was a severe stomach virus.

I never glimpsed that man’s face – just his lower half and a large container for tools he held – but he saved me, when I was in my weakest state.

Often this world can make you guarded, hostile, and combative. What he did was the kind of action that undoes that emotional callousness. He demonstrated that our default setting is towards kindness, a trait I cherish in other people.
