Jurgen Klopp says a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead any other side in England. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Pressed on which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the team talking freely, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”

Commending Arne Slot

He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea of it representing a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. The forward was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for his teammates too. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
