Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
