The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this negative culture.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
