Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
