Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday night. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a devastating event that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
The boxer had remained in the hospital while healing from his light wounds, his management team had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to leave and heal privately.
“Joshua and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two friends who passed away as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
Those who lost their lives were identified as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the tragic loss of his two dear friends.”
This update on his health arrives after the boxing community offered sympathy for the fighter in the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident.
